Here, we have tirelessly worked to developed a Derby SK8 for Fitness class that incorporates basic roller derby skills with endurance and fun!
We want to help you tone up and get into the best shape of your life! The RDVB team has combined years worth of roller derby knowledge to bring you a total body work out. By using basic derby skills like “arm whipping”, learning to stop, and basic “derby stance” your whole body will see results! Here, working on arm whips has the benefit of pushups, derby stance is better and easier on your joints than squats in tennis shoes. Doing fun drills helps to build up the strength of your core! Derby stance helps you focus on engaging your thighs and core to keep your balance. Want to work on your endurance? We can help you build up to skating hard non-stop for five minutes! Learning to both t-stop and “plow stop” helps tone up that pesky inner thigh area. Skating laps and jamming out with your friends is a great alternative to running or walking, and easy on the joints because it’s such a fluid motion! We have tons of fun exercises that are designed to work all areas of the body, even those infamous “problem areas.” Have something you want to work on? Speak up! We’re here to help you!
Coming to the SK8 for Fitness class is a great way to build up your derby skills if you’re interested in taking your roller derby experience to the next level. Roller Derby Virginia Beach is in the process of developing something like that just for you that is more intensive and for the more advanced skater! Never fear, if you’re not ready for the hard hits of roller derby, coming to skate just for fitness is great! Skating for fitness is a great workout that promises to work and engage your whole body while helping you remember what fun skating was as a kid!
Be warned, with all the fun you’re having, you’re going to sweat a lot too! SK8 for Fitness is such a rewarding workout that builds confidence in both your body and your skating! We will push you to work hard and your personal best! The workouts might be tough for the first few sessions, but it will be worth it when you start seeing results in your body, stamina, and skating!

Please remember that we do have a very limited supply of gear, skates and wheels available for loan for YOUR FIRST VISIT TO RDVB, just to take a lap or two to make sure you love it before you gear yourself up and make it your own…because we know you’ll love it…and we just want everyone to skate.
ABSOLUTELY NO GEAR OR SKATES WILL BE OFFERED FROM RETAIL STOCK FOR LESSONS OR CLASSES! If you are not able to purchase all the gear required to safely attend class or session we will do whatever we can to help!

Derby style SK8 for fitness, on and off skates- all levels, objective is core development, proper stretching techniques, new skater survival, focus on abdominal, quad, glute, free weights available for extra arm work-or bring your wrist and ankle weights-wearing ankle weights off skates makes you more stable on skates!-Balance, core, etc). This is not as intense as skills development, so you have something to work toward!
